Memorable Mother's Day at Grouse Mountain

We traveled 3700 feet up Grouse Mountain in this Gondola. We had views of the Capilano River, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, mountains, ocean, The Grey Wolf Refuge Area and so on. Breathtakingly beautiful. Great way to get an aerial view without getting in a plane!
We all voted it was time for Lucas to find a new hat...today we found the perfect hat for him! It has a bear as you can see on the front-his childhood nickname is 'Bear' from his Mommy-perfect for mother's day...I love it! As do us all....
The Gondola ride was smooth. It was good to go in the morning as it was packed in the Gondola when we left after lunchtime.

Green Green Green
British Columbia has lots of the Green stuff
It has been wonderful to see such a multitude of mature, green trees wherever we go here!

This rainbow around the sun took my breath away. I was just in awe. It was hard to capture the rainbow itself on camera-the colours- but this was a rainbow that was a perfect circle around the sun. I could hardly stop staring at it. It was simply glorious.

Jeff's gonna love this pic-he looks so tall compared to me!
Jeff's mom figured out that this is a Red Breasted Sapsucker. He was pecking loudly at one of the outdoor art pieces-doubt he'll get much sap out of that! Beautiful bird!
This was so cool to discover. So Canadian. Amazing view!
Lucas loved this one best- can you blame him?

Snow. Snow and more snow. We don't think our trip to Grouse would have been complete had it not had snow. This mountain is known for its ski hills and it really added to the beauty of the place to see all of the white stuff. The pic of the boys is how they looked as Jeff threw snow at them. Let's just stay a few snow ball fights took place while we were there. It was piled sooo high.

This is Coola. Coola is one of two rescued orphaned grizzly bears at Grouse. He is the bigger of the two bears. Grinder is the name of the other rescued bear. They were rescued and relocated to Grouse several years ago to attempt to show the world that they could be rehabilitated safely without large expense, in natural conditions, so that fewer cubs would be killed. These guys couldn't be put back in the wild as they had too much human contact from when they were young. But, since then other facilities like these have been created successfully for orphaned cubs and each time, the scientists come a little bit closer to their dreams of being able to send the bears back to their native areas once they are old enough to fend for themselves completely. We were really touched by their story and amazed at the size of the bears and those claws!!!
My boyz! Great Mother's Day! Thanks so much!

I'm heading back to reread it and look at your incredible pictures. Just unbelievable all the goodness packed into this one day. Perfect to honor you on your day. =)
