Photo(s) of the Day for June 20, 2009

Willow and Matt

These pics were taken after our dear friend Janet 'groomed' our dog Willow. Yes, I said groomed. Janet has her own dog grooming business on Salt Spring Island. On our second trip to S.S., Janet took Miss Willow along to work with her and gave her a spa treatment and a new scarf! Apparently, several people who met Willow that day, fell in love with her! What's not to love? Well, except that when she got home she rolled in something rather disgusting and had to be taken back for a second bath!!!
Thanks so much Janet on behalf of all of us and Willow most especially!

A Very Interesting Walk

Today we went on a walk and the first thing we saw were humongous trees. Then we saw a heron eating fishies. We watched him for ten minutes and he caught 9 fish! When we went back and he was still there and he caught 4 more fish in two minutes! Then, we walked farther and we saw trees that were chewed up by beavers not long ago because we saw the bark on the ground and no netting on the tree. Then we kept walking and walking and we met this dog named Keira and we played with her for a while. We watched Willow and Keira playing in the water and took pictures. Then when were walking back we saw this little puddle with tadpoles. Then we were looking at them for a little bit. We walked farther and saw a big big slug and then we looked at it for a little bit. Then we started walking and walking and we saw the bridge we passed. Then we went home. I liked our walk because it was nice and we got to see a lot of stuff.

* As dictated and remembered by Josh (9 years old)

Also- we looked up beavers on the Internet when we got home- we learned a few interesting facts about them. Did you know that a beaver cuts down an average of 216 trees per year that can be up to about 40 cm in diameter?

NB-Our friend Kevin has informed us that the slug in this blog is a Banana Slug!

Dog Walkers are Nice!

As told by Lucas

"Mom, we met a really nice person at the dog run and she taught us some sign language."

This woman from Minnesota had a dog named, Scooter and she knew the kids were from Canada as soon as they said the word 'about'. Apparently, Canadians say it 'softer' than Americans. The kids found out that this lady used to be a school teacher and sometimes she had to communicate with her students using sign language. She taught the kids a few words in sign as Willow and Scooter played together.

She told them that a thousand days in school couldn't teach them as much as they would learn on the kind of trip we were on!

How true is that!

We've certainly discovered that dog walkers are generally kind and friendly people and are thrilled that the children are gaining confidence socializing with new adults and doggies in a safe setting. There is not a dog that goes by that Josh does not ask to pat!

Often, the kids have a story to tell about the dogs and dog walkers they meet when they take Willow out. This one was extra special.

It's a Dog's Life....

Oh ya baby...freedom for Miss Willow
at Coronado, Beach on Saturday afternoon.

After crossing the San Diego Bridge, we found
Coronado Island located on the ocean, south of the
Naval Air Station.
It wasn't long before we were drooling over beautiful seaside homes.
Nearby, was a green park where
we met a Siberian Husky puppy named Simon who was
very lovable.
Our excitement mounted as we walked across the sand
and met up with other playful dogs at the beach.
This is one of many beaches that allow dogs to be off-leash.

Jeff let Willow off her lead and she sprinted far and wide. We are always
so happy to see her running like the wind and socializing with
other dogs.

A Glimpse Inside Our New Home

For those of you who are wondering what the inside of the trailer looks like ... here's a glimpse. Willow has propped herself on what is supposed to be our bed ... on the comforter that she was prohibited from being on by Jeff ... but, awwww she looks so comfy there. :) The second photo shows where I sit to update this blog. More pics to follow, when I'm brave enough to take pics during the half hour you might be able to view the floor, kitchen sink and boyz bedroom in some sort of order. :)

Dog Walk at Santee

'Hairy Armpit Trees'

These pics were taken two days ago....we enjoyed a walk with Willow around the grounds.

Today, the sun was shining bright and it was very warm...

Josh and me sat by the lake together with a snack and listened and looked on at the birds and ducks. We watched a hawk circle and drop down to the water several times. Finally, he caught his prey-a small fish! Josh saw that and said, 'Wow, you don't see that everyday!' :)

Lucas wasn't feeling well this morning, with a headache...but felt better later. We rode our bikes to the pool with our friends and the kids played at the park too.

Now, they are huddled outside of the Platt's residence under blankets watching Willie Wonka on Madison's DVD player... So nice to have friends to share this with! :)

Jeff should be home soon! He's been working hard lately...we look forward to spending quality time with him soon! He's been walking Willow at night and enjoying the silence and watching the Herons by the moon.

We hope to go to 'Children's Pool' in La Jolla on Saturday for Lucas's birthday so he can see some seals! More pics on the way...

Thinking of staying longer in California! Love it here!

Hope everyone is well and staying warm.
