We had quite an eventful weekend at Awenda Provincial Park!
Lisa organized a group of life learners to go camping and so, we hitched up the trailer and off we went.
It was kind of like old times, traveling in our RV's at the same time as the Platt Family...although our trip this time was rather short compared to others we have shared. :) We all felt as if we were hitting the road to some distant adventure!
One of the first things we noted upon arrival was the mass quantity of mosquitoes! Wow! Just crazy crazy crazy!
We learned rather quickly that long pants, hoodies, socks and sitting by the fire were helpful tools in avoiding the skitters. Although, to look at our badly bitten parts, you wouldn't think it. Wow, and we thought they were bad here on the farm! NOT!
Anyways, setting up with the trailer was fairly simple for us. We really enjoyed having the amenities of the trailer while camping this year, especially due to the colder temps., and sometimes rainy conditions.
Our group shared songs, food, games, conversation and laughter by the fire each night and some mornings. Jeff canoed on Kettle Lake with many children. He also sailed for the first time and then, the second, all in one long weekend! Quite a ride-especially the second one-that I wasn't at. Thank goodness. Bruce, Jeff and Tony came back and became known to Leslie and themselves as the 'Soggy Bottom Sailors'. :)
The kids had fun with nerf, in the forest, playing truth, dare, double dare, promise to repeat, capture the flag and other games... They went fishing and critter hunting. Found hatched turtle eggs, crayfish, a snake and a frog. They also jumped in Kettle Lake with all their clothes on and had a really fun swim. Lucas swam to the middle of the lake practically! Thankfully, we had garbage and grocery bags for them to sit on for the ride back to the site!
I truly enjoyed connecting with our friends young and old alike...Isn't it great when you can be in a setting where everyone smells like campfire mixed with dirt, bug spray and sometimes sweat :)...where you walk around in your pj's, your hair all asunder... your breath less than fresh... and really, it doesn't matter. You can walk to each others sites easily, share a fire and a cup of tea, some stories too...and it all leads to bonding. People bond when they camp. We certainly did! I love it! Makes me realize we should do it again. The more the merrier!
