Pedernales Falls National Park

Following our visit to Pace Bend on Saturday, we headed to Pedernales Falls National Park. We went directly to the falls which were quite dry compared to other years due to the drought here. One other visitor mentioned they were unrecognizable compared to the past 3 years when she saw them. However, the pooling water that was there was a clear green-one spot was red! There were rocks for climbing and nooks and crannies with fish and minnows to explore, so the boyz loved it. This area was a highlight for Jeff as well.

It was a hot afternoon, so we gladly found the beach area where swimming was permitted. In fact, it was a rocky river lined with large, old trees sporting snake-shaped roots. However, there were sandy points of entry. The kids could have stayed here forever. Josh found 8 frogs. Their song sounds kind of like maracas! Lizards were everywhere. The current in the stream kept the boys occupied for quite a while until they spotted a rope where they could jump into the river from. Josh, then Lucas, then Matt after some encouragement. Yet another example of old-fashioned boyhood fun! They would go again for sure!
