HIking Tips by Laurie

1. Take lots of water! Do not hike up hills or mountains, especially in the desert without water. Get a hiking pack for your waist, so you can bring your water and be hands free.

2. Do not drink all of your water at the beginning of your hike. (Right Matt?!)

3. Wear socks and shoes with a good tread on them. Crocs are not a good hiking option! Thorns are sharp!

4. Make noise to alert critters like snakes and coyotes that you are there.

5. Stay still if you want to view birds and not scare them.

6. Go to the bathroom at the beginning of the hike...or you have to wait.

7. Take bandaids.

8. Keep a cooler with ice and more drinks at your car for after your hike. You will be ever so grateful when you are done.

9. Bring deodorant if you plan to take your stinky self to a restaurant right after your hike, because you are too tired to make dinner! :)

10. Don't start your hike too close to sunset, as hikes usually take longer than you think-especially with critter-finding kidlets!

11. Bring a flashlight, a pocket knife and a big walking stick.

12. Take your camera. You never know when an awesome photo opp. will come your way.

13. Wear the same bright bandanas, hats or shirts to identify members of your group easily.

14. Keep a partner nearby and stick with your group.

15. Take time to sit and breathe in the silence.

16. Look back as you walk. The views change as you go...

17. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

18. Do it again!
